The US Department of Commerce has introduced restrictive measures for the export of goods to Russia and the Republic of Belarus. The list of prohibited goods includes 1,224 items. The restrictions affected both large medical diagnostic equipment (tomographs, ultrasound machines, X-ray devices), as well as consumables and components.

Under the ban were: orthopedic, dental, ophthalmic products and equipment, pacemakers, hearing aids, etc. The export of goods will be possible only if an export license is obtained.

The restrictions will take effect on May 23, 2023. The official document is posted on the website of the Federal Records Register of the US Government.

Last July, the US government suspended export restrictions on medical supplies. Transactions for the production, manufacture, sale and transportation of medical devices and their components were allowed. In addition, restrictions were lifted on software updates for medical devices, as well as on clinical trials, medical research and other activities (including those related to COVID-19).

Earlier this year, Japan also tightened sanctions on the export of medical devices that can be used in the manufacture of vaccines, immunotoxins, military bacterial or chemical preparations.

Given the above, we expect an increase in the activity of manufacturers from countries friendly to the Russian Federation importing medical devices and consumables. If you are a distributor and are just planning to bring such products to the market, we will be happy to help.
